LONDON 2012 Olympic Games

From 2003 to 2012, the WOO team lead the design of the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games on behalf of LOCOG, from the initial bid proposals, through to the final hour of the closing ceremony.

In 2003 we put together the masterplan team for the Olympic Park, inviting EDAW, Allies Morrison, Foreign Office and Buro Happold to form the agency lineup that created the winning bid plan for London 2012.

The WOO team set out a clear and concise design and architectural strategy for the event, which was key to winning the bid and the principals of which have become the blueprint for future Games.

As LOCOG's 'Head of Design and Overlay', responsibility included coordination and delivery of all venues, both permanent and temporary.

Design was at the forefront of all decision-making throughout, from architecture and landscaping to graphics, art and entertainment.

In addition to the Park, the WOO team lead the design of over 34 individual venues across the UK, many embracing historic venues with entirely temporary overlay.

We knew that the Games themselves may be fleeting, but their impact on our imagination would last long into the future.
